Living on a tropical island as lush and beautiful as Jamaica does have its advantages. Today the BBCC team decided to make use of the nearby community beach to cool down and have fun with the kids.
Each child had the chance to participate in surfing lessons, swimming lessons and beach games. The day passed by easily with the children and adults having a relaxed but good time.

Guest volunteer - Sky from Germany, brought along her love of art and crafts to the kids at BBCC and taught the children lessons on how to mix colors and create a color wheel.
Skye's lesson consisted of hands on training in the art of creating different colors and shades. The children had a blast mixing colors and also learning about the functions of primary colors and how they create secondary colors which can also be mixed to create different hues and different shades. Today's Herb Lesson with resident herbalist and PE instructor, Bakra - consisted of fun games that opened the children up to discussion and debate on the uses and benefits of using herbs found in your back yard.
The lesson consisted of first identifying different herbs typically found growing in and around the neighborhoods of the Boston Bay community. This exercise gave the children a chance to exercise and explore their neighbourhood while also paying keen attention to the details of their surrounding neighborhood and landscape. After thirty minutes of the class came back with an vibrant array of different plants, herbs and flowers. The lesson continued with open questions and discussions about the uses of herbs and their benefits to your health. The BBCC staff and children were treated to a day at Goblin Hill for Easter Egg hunting and many more games. The kids enjoyed getting the chance to learn and play in a different environment and we were quite proud to see them on their best behaviour!
After a day full of games, egg painting, swimming, playing and finally egg hunting - the kids were left overfed and exhausted with good energy. We thank the entire Goblin Hill staff who have been so helpful in allowing our children to use their beautiful space to host extracurricular games and events. Visit www.goblinhill.com for more information on their eco-friendly space. |
